Opening times & services
Check-in time: 16:00 – 23:00. Check-out: Before 11:00.
Breakfast is served 07:30 – 09:30. It is kr.2.800 per person. If you have breakfast included in your room rate, please just inform the breakfast staff of your room number when you arrive for breakfast.
There is free wifi. The wifi network is Hotel Laxnes and the password is Laxnes2008
There is 1 TV channel in your room: RUV (Icelandic national channel)
A hairdryer, iron and iron board, and travel adaptors (if available) are available from staff on duty.
Please always keep your room key with you (do not hand it in at reception during your stay).
Frequently asked questions:
smell?: Our hot water does sometimes have the Icelandic charm, meaning, it can smell. The smell is from the sulfur. Our hot water source is unique in Mosfellsbær and that is why sometimes you may find it smelling a bit after a shower.
Can I drink the tap water? Yes, all cold water is the best water you will find. Our suggestion: run the tap on cold for a while to flush out any sulfur from the hot water. Keep your finger under the tap until you feel it is sufficiently cold.
Alternatively, you can come to the bar area and fill up your bottles.
Too hot or too cold? If your room is on the ground floor, your room is heated via underfloor central heating. If you need it hotter or colder, please speak to a staff member on duty. It is also common practice to use the natural cooler of an open window 
Do you need a towel changed? If you would like housekeeping to exchange your current towels for new ones, please place the towels on the floor. They will collect it and replace it with a fresh clean towel.
Do you want your bedding changed? It is common practise to only change your bedding if your total stay with us is more than 4 days. You will then have new sheets, in the middle of your stay. If you would prefer it changed at any other time, please don’t hesitate to let the staff at breakfast or reception know in the morning.
Leisure activities
All day tours, activities by car and airport transfers can be booked at reception.
Please note that if you have booked a Golden Circle tour they usually pick up after they have left Reykjavik, which means it is usually 45 minutes after the advertised pickup time. If in doubt, ask at reception.
At the hotel:
Darts: Kr.3.000 for 1 hour. Please book your time at the bar area.
Pool table: We have a pool table above the bar area. It is kr.200 per game.
Hot tub: we are only offering private 1-hour sessions at kr.5.500 which includes, 1-hour private access to the hotel tub area, 2 drinks, bathrobes, and extra towels, Please book in advance.
Walking in Mosfellsbær area: please see reception for directions. We have 2 easy walks that we can recommend:
- a walk along a river with a waterfall and a forest
- the ocean side walk.
Álafoss wool factory outlet: woolens and souvenir shop
Horse riding in the valley, we have a lovely family run local horse farm just 8 minutes drive form the hotel. Please see reception to book a 1.5 hour horse ride either in the morning 09:00 or 13:00

Gljúfrastein is the former home of nobel laureate Halldór Laxness. Open to the public as a museum.

Where to dine
The hotel bar has a big screen for sports viewing of football and other sports. Please note we do not have a bar tab system in place.
- Homemade Icelandic soup with a free refill. We offer the traditional Icelandic lamb meat soup in the evenings in the bar area from 18:00, Sundays – Thursdays. It is kr.2.500 / Eur16.50 which includes bread and a free refill. You can order it latest by 13:00 every day to have the same evening by sending us a message here
BLIK Bistro. Driving time 5 minutes, with the bus & walking 13 minutes. Beautiful views from the Mosfellsbær golf club. Open daily 11:30 – 22:00. You can book a table here. Serving pizzas, tacos, steaks, fish, burgers, salads & desserts, with daily specials available.
- To get to BLIK by public bus take the bus 15 in the direction of Reykjavik / Meistervellir and the bus stop is Blikastaðavegur (6 minutes by bus). Once you get off the bus the first road to your right by the ring road will lead you to the Mosfellsbaer Golf Course. BLIK is in the golf course club house. The bus fare is ISK470 as usual. Otherwise, ask the staff on duty to call you a taxi it will be approximately ISK2.000-3.000 1-way.
Mosfellsbakarí: (Mon – Fri: 07:00 – 18:00 / Sat & Sun: 08:00 – 16:00). The famous local bakery and chocolatier – great coffee, sandwiches, soup and pasteries.
Fast Food: Dominos Pizza, Kentucy Fried Chicken, Mosó Grill (dinner – burgers), Pizzan, Duos, Skyr bar @ N1)

N1 Gas station (Monday – Saturday: 07:00 – 23:30 / Sunday: 09:00 – 23:30). Gas station shops have everything from drinks to Icelandic hot dogs if you want to try the famous Icelandic hot dog!

Bus Schedule. Bus 15 picks up outside the hotel on our side of the road. It costs 570 ISK, please have exact change. Our bus stop is called Háholt. To get into Reykjavik city centre get off at Hlemmur bus station. It runs every 30 minutes to and from the hotel, being:15 or:45 past each hour. The first bus on weekdays starts at 06:45, on Saturdays at 07:45, and on Sundays at 09:45. The last bus back from Reykjavik daily at 00:15. You can also pay by card using the Bus app

An Airport transfer (ISK 3.899 one-way) can be booked via the link provided or with a member of staff. It is advised to book a transfer that leaves the hotel 3 hours before your flight departure time. The airport transfer departs from the BSI bus terminal in Reykjavik. Take bus 15 from the hotel to the BSI in Reykjavik.
